Digital distribution

Dr Game,
What do you think about the PSP 2 being digital distribution only?
- Travis, via email
Well - the PSP 2 hasn't even been officially announced and the only talk about digital downloads is coming from Dave Perry who's famous for Earthworm Jim and the crappy Matrix games. So not really a credible source.
But I think digital distribution - if that's what Sony plans to do - would be great. As long as the prices are competitive. Because that's the only thing that will hold it back.
For example Loco Roco 2 is available for $49.95 on the PS Store now but I can get it for $40.00 at my local Kmart. Now in this economical time where do you think I'm going to buy my game?
Sure, the extra $10 could go towards convenience of not having to carry around a UMD and the lack of packaging. But it's $10 that could go to a few drinks at the pub.
It would be good if Sony did a weekly special like Microsoft is currently doing with Xbox Live or if it offered a bunch of smaller games like Flower or Pain for $10-15. Even if it went along the lines of the Ipod Touch/IPhone with miniature apps for $1-5.
We'll just have to wait and see for official announcement but I don't think it's a bad idea. I would actually like them to put the entire back catalogue of PSP games online to download because some are hard to track down. I'm looking at you Echochrome.
