Dr Game's Euthanasia - Review scores
February 18th 2009 01:17
Ok, so it's not a game series but it's something that effects the gaming industry.
I hate giving games a score out of 10, 100 or even A,B,C or Z. I admit, I've only done it to conform like the rest of the sheep in the industry. Why do we do it? Because gamers need numbers to justify their purchase or to influence other gamers to purchasing or not purchasing a particular game. It's ridiculous.
I have to applaud the Drunken Gamers (www.robotpanic.com) and the guys at PSNation (www.vgevo.com) for NOT giving games a score and simply recommending it or letting you know to give it a miss.
Get a few of those and that should be all you need to know whether or not to pick up a game. Scores simply fuel fanboys who go on to forums around the world wide web either trashing or defending a game simply because it scored 0.1 higher or lower than another title.
Tell me - you can tell me what makes a game 0.1 better or worse than another title.
It's even worse if it's an exclusive title. Killzone 2, Gears 2, Resistance 2, Fable II - they've all seen their fair share of flame wars on message boards as well as a ridiculous amount of hatred spewed towards reviewers. It's ridiculous.
So I don't think we need anymore numbers to tell people whether or not to buy a game and I for one will not be giving my reviews on here a score.
