Dr Game's PSA - Nintendo 09
March 25th 2009 21:19
Nintendo drew back the curtain on what they plan to do with the Wii and DS and it's looking promising.
Probably the biggest news was the announcement of a new Zelda game on the DS. Titled Spirit Tracks for now - it sees the adventurer in an all new environment and ditching the boat or a train. In typical Nintendo fashion, little is known about the title except that it's due later this year.
A couple of new channels are coming to your Wii. The first is a SD Card channel allowing for more storage options for those of you who buy games and items off the Wii Store. The second is Virtual Console Arcade - this will feature arcade-like titles that haven't appeared on any console like Gaplus aka Galaga 3.
Wii Ware is still around apparently and Nintendo showed off Rock and Roll Climber, which looks like a rock climbing sim that uses the balance board. I think it was originally called Climber and they added Rock and Roll to it just so it looked interesting.
Not bad Nintendo - the Wii has had a good start to the year with Mad World and House of the Dead courtesy of Sega. First-party wise there is nothing to get excited about - and no Punch Out is not worth getting excited about. The DS is in the same boat but Zelda will get some people excited but there doesn't appear to be anything else on the horizon.
Hopefully at E3 the Big N will spend some of the money they're rolling around in now.
