Dr Game's Second Opinion - LEGO Batman
October 13th 2008 00:13
LEGO Batman sticks to the same formula as the previous LEGO titles. Your character enters an area full of destructible LEGO pieces and you use your abilities to get from point A to point B. It's simple but it works.
Each character has their own unique ability to overcome obstacles. Batman can double-jump while the Boy Wonder can walk along tightropes and fit in tight spaces. You won't be able to access everything on your first run through though.
Instead you'll need to be a little naughty and take control of some of Batman's foes like The Penguin, Riddler and Joker. Each of these diabolical fiends also has their own abilities to reach areas that our heroes can not access allowing you to collect all the necessary collectibles that unlock costumes, minigames and characters.
The main difference between the previous two LEGO games is that the Villains receive their own unique story mode complete with cutscenes. So even though you're exploring the same levels as the Dark Knight it feels like you've scored a separate game.
DIAGNOSIS
LEGO Batman is a great game for fans of the LEGO series. If you're new to the series then this is a great introduction but if you didn't get a kick out of LEGO Indy or LEGO Star Wars then give it a miss.
