E3 Post mortem
June 9th 2009 00:19
E3 has come and gone and what a show it was. No matter what system you own – you’re going to have a lot of quality titles for it. Here’s what I thought were the standouts from the show.
Splinter Cell Conviction – I had a lot doubts for this title because it’s been so long since we’ve heard anything about it but after watching the developer walkthrough I can see why we’ve seen nothing. It has completely transformed since we last saw it and looks fantastic. A lot more immersive and some great gameplay mechanics. Fantastic.
Halo ODST – I was so wrong about this game. I thought it was just going to be an average looking and average playing Halo title but after watching Bungie show it off – I’m convinced this is going to be fantastic and a must-buy. I even popped in Halo 3 for the first time in a year and plan on getting on the new Legendary map pack so I can play some ranked Team games.
Brutal Legend – This game looks better and better every time I see it. I can’t wait. Hopefully the alleged lawsuit from Activision doesn’t stop it from getting released.
God of War III – I was already sold on this but again it looks fantastic and a lot more fun then the two previous titles combined.
Just Cause 2 – The in-game trailer looked amazing. I have the first title but have barely touched it. This is making me want to play through it.
The Saboteur – I have seen Pandemic post a lot about this title and decided to check it out and I came away wanting to see more. Hopefully they pull it off because so far it looks very promising.
Uncharted 2 – Like God of War III I was already sold on this but this is looking better and better with every trailer. I’m not sold on multiplayer yet.
Assassin’s Creed II – Another sequel that’s looking fantastic. I want this now.
Metroid Other M – I’ve never been big on the Metroid series but I like the direction they’ve taken with this. It does look like Ninja Gaiden with Metroid characters but I think it works.
PSP GO! – The price sucks but that’s nothing new from Sony. But I will still probably pick this up at launch.
It wasn’t all good news – here are some titles I’m not convinced on.
Project Natal – I don’t believe what Microsoft showed was the power of the camera. It could have easily been pre-programmed to react to specific keywords, images etc. I won’t pick this up at launch but I’ll wait and see the reviews of other users.
Silent Hill Shattered Memories – I like the look, I like that it looks like it’s going to be told in flashback form, but I read that on the Wii-version at least that there won’t be combat. Instead you’ll be moving objects in the way of your enemies. I think I might just wait for the PSOne classic.
Quantum – Gears of War for the PS3, don’t try convincing me it’s any different.
Saw – So lame. Looks poor. Just no good all round.
New Super Mario Bros. Wii – Co-op but the same amount of items. I don’t know if you can play single-player but yeah I’ll wait to see when that is confirmed.
Echochrono – I’m yet to pick up Echochrome but I still plan to get it but yeah I will not be getting this sequel. It does not look it has the same charm.
