Does game advertising = success?

Dr Game,
I've seen a lot of advertising for Killzone recently but I don't remember seeing anything for Resistance 2. I heard Resistance 2 didn't sell that great, do you think it was because of the lack of advertising?

I would have to agree 100%.
I did not see one TV ad or poster up for Resistance 2. I didn't even see anything for LittleBigPlanet and these were supposed to be two of their biggest games of 2008.
Now I've seen a Killzone ad every ad break on cable in Australia as well as advertising for House of the Dead Overkill and I've got to say they work. Last night I was watching Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and must have seen about three ads for House of the Dead. I wasn't tired by the time the credits rolled so i popped in the game and played through the first chapter - Papa's Palace of Pain and I really enjoyed it.
Plus Killzone has been pretty big for a PS3 game. I'm expecting the sales figures to show this. Killzone.com has crashed on a few occasions with people bombarding it to find out their stats. I've always managed to find a game online and there has been 0% lag which is amazing considering the amount of trouble I've had with Call of Duty World at War.
So I would agree that publishers need to advertise their titles if they want to see success. Especially the way the economy is - I think it's a must to get your game in everyone's face. You've got to make it something that gamers must not miss out on.
