Looking abroad...

Dr Game,
Is it worth importing games? If so, where should I buy them from?
- Travis
Travis, I might as well be president of Vanderlay Industries... a little Seinfeld humour.
Depending on what country you're from, importing definitely has its advantages if you're living in the PAL region. The UK, Europe and Australia get screwed on prices for their favourite hobby.
I personally do all my importing from www.play-asia.com. I've found it very trustworthy and very efficient when it comes to getting games out promptly even with their cheapest postage plan. You can pay by credit card, Paypal or Bank Deposit.
Ebay should not be overlooked either. Ebay as you would know continues to grow year after year. You can find pre-orders and hard to find treasures on here. You have your work cut out for you to find a decent price. Sometimes you'll need to bid and other times you'll need to do the sum on the cost postage.
www.yesasia.com is also a great site if you don't have any luck with Ebay or play-asia. Prices are very similar to play-asia and sometimes better. But again, you've got to keep an eye on the postage.
The biggest tip I can give you Travis is to keep an eye on the REGION. Ebay is fine because it is localised and will only sell games that work in your region. But on the other sites you'll need to check that the game works on PAL consoles. Both sites will list in their descriptions if the game is region-free or not. PlayStation 3, PSP, DS and some Xbox 360 games are region free, but forget about Wii games.
