Dr Game,
Does surround sound make any difference when playing a game?
- Len, via email
Definitely Len, I recently purchased surround sound for my setup and I can't believed I played games without it.
Call of Duty World at War tends to spend the most time in my 360 and it is amazing to hear the chatter behind me or hearing an airstrike in the distance. What I noticed most was how crystal clear the sound was. My system has six 800w speakers and a subwoofer but the sound was perfect.
I've popped in other games like Metal Gear Solid 4, Mass Effect, Resistance 2, Fallout 3 and Tomb Raider and with each game I heard sound effects that I've never heard through the TV and it's making we want to revisit games like Bioshock, Uncharted and Gears of War 2 just to see what I've missed out on.
Don't think it's going to blow out your bank account as well because my system only set me back $AU200. My system isn't an amplifier and I know with an amplifier my sound would probably be even better but it's Christmas time and I'm a tightarse. So if you're like me a system like this would allow you to plug your TV into the system via the Audio In port. Then turn down the volume on your TV and you've got yourself a semi-cinema experience.
So Len I would recommend it to you and anyone else to pick up a surround sound, even if it is a cheap one, so you can see what you've been missing out on. For the record my system is a Samsung TZ-210 with the RRP $AU238.
