Dr Game,
Why was F.E.A.R. 2 banned in Australia?
- MB, via email
Well MB if you thought FEAR was bloody then you ain't seen nothing...
The reason the OFLC Refused Classification to FEAR 2 because of it's high impact violence - in particular the way bodies were presented after bullets riddled their bodies.
According the some websites there is a level titled Hospital where doctors and nurses lay about in pools of blood and because today's graphics are quite realistic the OFLC decided against putting these images on shelves because it might just harm us Aussies. Who knows - it could even ruin the public hospital system... wait a sec, it's already a mess.
The OFLC report also mentioned the impact particular weapons had on enemies. Pistols, rocket launchers and the infamous nail gun illustrated realistic damage on enemies. The nail gun in particular nailed enemies to a wall like they were a Monet painting until the split in two pieces and finally a pool of blood.
Considering Australia has no R rating it's no wonder images like this are not allowed to be viewed by Aussies. It's funny when you think about it considering it was Australians who conceived the horror franchise Saw and the Government also helped fund movies like Wolf Creek and the TV series Underbelly. We've also got that Dying Breed movie set in Tasmania that sees some sort of evil tribe hunt and mutilate innocent civilians.
