PS2 not dead yet

Dr Game,
I saw the PS2 is getting a price cut - does it really matter?

I don't think it's huge news but I think it does give the Wii a little competition.
The PS2 has around 2000 games in its catalogue with over half of them being of AAA quality. There's something for everyone and the price of software is a lot cheaper compared to the Wii.
Look at the catalogue - Metal Gear Solid 2 & 3, God of War 1 & 2, Need for Speed titles, Burnout titles, Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, EyeToy, Buzz, SingStar, The Getaway, Maximo, Killzone. I could go all day.
Now what Sony has to do is promote the hell out of the new price drop, the catalogue of games available for it and the price of it's software.
The audience they want to target is the Wii audience who don't care about next-gen graphics or big budget games. They just want something they can put in and play and the PS2 has plenty of titles that fulfill this need. I think it is hilarious that Microsoft has shrugged it off by saying it doesn't matter and that only the 360 matters and it's this generation that people care about. If this was the case then the 360 would be outselling the Wii and we all know this is not the case.
The average consumer out there is looking for cheap, quality entertainment and they're thinking they will get that with the Wii and for some they are getting it purely with Wii Sports. But if they look a little to the left then will see the library of PS2 titles and a $99 price tag and think that's worth checking out.
