RE5 versus gamers

Dr Game,
Do you think it is right that Capcom is charging us for a multiplayer mode for Resident Evil 5?
- Jack, via email
I personally don't think it is right to charge us for a multiplayer mode. As I've mentioned in previous blogs - developers want us to play their product online so why charge us for doing that.
As for the Versus mode with Resident Evil 5 - it's only 1 on 1 and 2 on 2 games and personally I don't think anyone picked up Resident Evil 5 for multiplayer. It's all about the single player experience and the continuing mythology of the series. So my theory is that Capcom is using the excuse that they delivered a fantastic single-player experience (debatable) and this is an add-on and an entirely separate experience.
No matter how you word it - it's pretty weak they're charging for this option.
If you want a good multiplayer experience then there are plenty of titles out there that offer it for free. Call of Duty, Gears of War 2, Left 4 Dead, Halo 3, GTA IV, Street Fighter IV. These games are consistently in the top 10 for online multiplayer on Xbox Live and none of these titles would pull you away for long enough to get obsessed with the Resident Evil 5 multiplayer.
