Rip off

Dr Game,
I heard the new Wolverine game is a lot like God of War - do you think that it will be a good game if they just rip that game off?
Lance, via email
I suppose if you look at previous film-tie-in games that they often rip off popular titles. Some work like Quantum of Solace (Rainbow Six Vegas) and some don't Spider-Man 2 & 3 (GTA).
So as for Wolverine ripping off God of War - it could work if they do it well but we won't really know until the game is in our consoles or a demo arrives. I don't think you can trust previews because a) PR companies are only showing the best parts of the game and b) games journos are hyping it up so they get more looks at it during and the development cycle.
For the Wolverine game to be good it needs to be all about action. Non-stop hack and slash as well as plenty of what I like to call "holy shit" moments where you just sit back and go "holy shit that was cool".
The previews have mentioned some context-sensitive set-pieces similar to God of War which I'm sure will be cool but I'm wondering if it will distract you from the action on screen.
Again - we'll have to wait and see. My only concern is Activision is the publisher behind this and they don't have a good track record for movie-tie in games... Fantastic Four 1 & 2, X-Men 3, Spider-Man.
