Rock you block off

Dr Game,
I heard that Harmonix accidentally leaked LEGO Rock Band - do you know anything about it?
- Jason, via email
This morning LEGO Rock Band was made official for the PS3, 360, Wii and DS and that we should expect it to arrive this holiday season.
It looks like the game will be pitched to all the little rock stars out there and the soundtrack will reflect that. Some of the songs that were announced include Pink "So What", Blur "Song 2", Carl Douglas "Kung Fu Fighting" and Europe "The Final Countdown".
The kicker is that it uses the same instruments as the original games. So my question is why do we need a LEGO Game? Surely this could have been downloadable content. I also don't see why the kids can't play some of the other songs available on Rock Band. If you're using the same instruments and it's on the Easy setting then surely it's not going to make a huge difference.
I don't know how well Rock Band 2 sold so I don't know if this is a way to broaden the audience to bring in more sales or to make people more aware of the brand. I also don't know why it's not being available on the PS2 - maybe they haven't announced that yet.
So Jason I'm not convinced this will be a must-buy this holiday season - but I guess if you've got to buy a present for a young niece or nephew then this might be one to get them if the family doesn't have Rock Band, but I think there's going to be a lot of competition that will be more attractive and cheaper.
