Dr Game,
Is the new PSP 3000 model worth picking up?
- Jono, via email
I was lucky to score a new PSP 3000 model, kind of annoying considering I just forked out $AUD300 on the PSP 2000 model.
The main feature of the PSP 3000 model is the new LCD screen. Colours are a lot richer. You can really notice the difference in visual quality with some of the higher quality PSP titles like Daxter, Secret Agent Clank and God of War.
The screen is a lot more friendly when playing outside courtesy of the new anti-glare coating on the screen. It makes darker games like Silent Hill Origins much easier to play when getting a tan at the beach or waiting for a train to show up.
Sony has also thrown in a built-in microphone for Skype users and replaced the Home button with the PS logo. The battery life is identical despite the changes so you're not at a disadvantage for having a more powerful model.
So to answer your question Jono, if you haven't upgraded your PSP for a couple of years then definitely pick this up but if you're like me and have just upgraded to the PSP Slim and Lite then there are not enough features on the 3000 model to justify spending another wad of cash on a brighter screen and microphone.
