Wii Fit or fad?

October 9th 2008 03:52
Dr Game,

I'm thinking about getting Wii Fit. A lot of my friends have it and it looks like a lot of fun and could be good for my health. Do you think it's worth it?

- John

Short answer John. No

I'm all for being healthy. But products like Wii Fit and even Sony's Eyetoy fitness programs are not the way to go about it.

If you want to exercise you go to a gym. If you want a nice meal you go to a restaurant. And if you want to play a game then you buy a Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 or a Wii.

These aren't exercise machines. Plain and simple.

As for Nintendo "utilising" the balance board for other titles... snowboarding could be cool, as could skateboarding. But sitting on it for Rayman isn't cool and if no one has been able to utilise the Wii-mote for anything bar minigame compilations then what hope do you have for developers make games primarily for a balance board.

So save your money John. There are several Wii titles like Wario, Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros, Metroid, Super Paper Mario, Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles and plenty of others that are more deserving of your money.

If you've got a question for Dr Game email paulfrew@hotmail.com.
